Lion Nathan is a leading alcoholic beverages business with operations in Australia and New Zealand and market-leading brands in beer, fine wine and spirits.
About Us
Lion Nathan is a business unit of Lion Nathan National Foods, Australasia’s largest food and beverage company.
Our success is built on the foundations of great people and great brands. We employ more than 3,500 people, deliver returns in excess of $2.2 billion, and boast a portfolio of some of Australia and New Zealand’s most adored brands in beer, fine wine and spirits.
In addition to direct employment, we make a significant contribution to the Australian and New Zealand economies. We are one of the region’s largest purchasers of agricultural goods through our sourcing of local raw materials, and an integral part of the retail, hospitality and tourism industries.
Around 90 per cent of our assets are in our two core brewing businesses in Australia and New Zealand. We also have a small premium wine business, a stake in a joint-venture spirits business in Australia, and a broader spirits portfolio in New Zealand.
Our Strategy
Our strategy is simple. We invest in our core assets – our people, our brands and our production facilities – to drive sustainable returns.
We provide a constructive culture for our people, where they have the flexibility and empowerment to be the best they can be, really make a difference and have a great time doing it.
At the same time we focus heavily on the engine of our business – our breweries and brands – and have invested some $500 million into these assets over the past five years.
Our Tooheys and Castlemaine Perkins breweries have been upgraded; we’ve built a new multi-beverage production facility in New Zealand called The Pride; and we’ve opened a new, state-of-the-art brewhouse at the iconic Boag’s Brewery in Launceston, Tasmania.
All the while we’ve been steadily building our iconic brand portfolio, by investing 8-10 per cent of net revenue into marketing and innovation. We focus our efforts around a group of high potential, national brands to drive value, while maintaining support for our regional heroes – such as West End Draught, which is still the market leader in South Australia by some distance.
Our Commitment
We are committed to doing the right thing for the long term by investing in our core strategic assets and maintaining a culture of environmental and social sustainability.
Our Locations
Our footprint spans Australia and New Zealand with eight major breweries, one craft brewery, two distilleries, seven wineries and 46 liquor outlets in New Zealand.
